Dublin Food Co-Op

We are Ireland's leading location to buy organic, local, Fairtrade and sustainable products. But that's not all! Our co-operative principles and member ownership mean that we're much more than a farmers market - we're a true food democracy in the heart
of the city.

Our Roots & Evolution

The Co-op's roots lie with a group of friends involved in a campaign to stop the Government building a Nuclear Power Station at Carnsore Point, Co. Wexford. Together, in 1983, they formed a buying group to save money by bulk purchasing vegetarian wholefoods and other sustainable living products. Within a short time, this embryonic co-operative had moved toward trading weekly from a hired hall at St. Andrew's Resource Centre on Pearse Street, which became our home for more than two decades. Dublin Food Co-operative Society was formally registered in 1991 and was a pioneer of organic and local food long before the rise of farmers markets in Ireland. As the Pearse Street venue did not allow for either expansion or permanence, in later years the Co-op began what became a long search for a new home. We finally moved in July 2007 and a new chapter began.
